Know Your Audience
This can be an easy mistake for a new speaker to make. If you do not know to whom you are speaking, then you risk offending the audience. If you can not recognize to whom you are speaking, then you can not reduce the risk of offending the audience.
To recognize your audience could be as simple as changing a speech to regonize a member of the audience. Or it could be as time consuming as writing a new speech for a particular demographic. Whatever the change, you need to show your audience that the audience matters to you and that the audience is not just hearing a pre-recorded message.
